Senior Kayla Schmidt and junior Kyle Urban both posted top-30 finishes to lead Canisius in the 50th Paul Short Run presented by ASICS, Saturday at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pa.
Racing in the bronze division 8k event, Urban turned in a time of 25:21.5 to place 27th. Sophomore Joseph Capuzzo (26:07.7/75th), senior Collin Rice (26:11.7/82nd), graduate student Max Chew (26:21.7/104th) and junior Brody Jones (26:22.6/106th) rounded out the top five male runners for the Golden Griffins
Canisius finished in 11th place with a team total of 376 points. Davis & Elkins won the men's race with a team total of 79 points. Catawba placed second (128) and Colgate was third (134).
In the women's bronze division 6k race, Schmidt paced the Griffs with a 16th place finish as she crossed the tape in 21:59.8. Junior Jacqueline Appenheimer (22:33.0/39th), freshman Ella Krumpek (23:03.5/89th), graduate student Jules Jones (23:19.5/112th) and senior Taylor Heschke (23:24.7/124th) completed the top five women's runners for Canisius.
The Golden Griffins took 13th place with a team total of 379 points. New Hampshire won the women's race with 103 team points, followed by Catawba in second with 156 and Liberty in third with 214.
Canisius also posted a plethora of personal records in the open races. On the men's side, juniors Joseph Pivarunas (27:09.5) and Braden Tent (27:46.1), freshman Fenway Breckls (28:22.3) and sophomore Mason Allee-Castro (29:02.8) all posted the best 8k times of their respective careers.Â
For the Canisius women, sophomores Ella Herman (24:25.9), Brooke Podgorski (25:04.7), Cassandra Collins (25:11.7), Payton Calkins (25:12.5) and Julia Hise (28:21.3) all also posted the best 6k times of their careers.
