Our Mission:
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) of Canisius University, pledges to pursue academic and athletic excellence as well as to uphold the ideals and values of the Jesuit tradition. We seek to generate a student-athlete voice within the athletic department and the institution, to discuss issues and develop recommendations to enhance the well-being of student-athletes on campus, to solicit student-athlete response to proposed NCAA legislation and/or conference legislation and to organize service efforts to promote a positive image within the institution and its surrounding community.

What is SAAC?
The Canisius Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a NCAA nationally recognized student-run organization that at Canisius is the voice of the student-athletes. SAAC has two voting representatives from each of the intercollegiate teams. All student-athletes are welcome to attend committee meetings and should contact a representative with interest or inquiries. At the meetings, representatives discuss matters affecting student-athlete life and welfare, learn more about NCAA and conference rules and plan events. The Deputy Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator, the Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance and the Academic Support Services Graduate Assistant will serve as staff advisors to the SAAC.

Community Service/Outreach Program
Intercollegiate athletics has its own community service and outreach program for giving back to the community. A major focus of SAAC is organizing community service and outreach projects and coordinating student-athlete involvement in those events. They address issues of student-athlete welfare and are committed to providing public service and improving the quality of life in local communities. SAAC is instrumental in organizing annual athletics participation in collecting toys during the holiday season for underprivileged families in Western New York and helps support various team-led efforts to local and national charitable organizations.

Along with other outreach events, Canisius’ SAAC organizes and hosts events around National Women and Girls in Sports Day each February.

All Canisius student-athletes are welcome to attend the monthly SAAC meetings. For more information about meeting dates and times, contact your team SAAC representative.
