Sophomore Christine Mulvihill took home first place for the
women and senior Vasilis Kariolis placed first on the men's side as
the cross country team took the top five finishes on both teams against St.
Bonaventure and Niagara in the annual Little Three Championship in Olean, N.Y. Saturday morning.
Mulvihill matched her personal best time of 19:08, winning
the 5k race. The Griffs swept the top five finishes and eight of the top ten,
with Samantha Garnet (19:20), Julie Dahlkemper (19:26), Ellen Duane (19:37) and
Jess Nowak (19:43) at the head of the pack. The win adds a fourth consecutive
Little Three title for the Griffs.
The men also earned their fourth consecutive Little Three crown as Kariolis
took his third team win of the season, leading the Griffs to first place in
26:40. The Griffs placed in the top six spots in the 8k race, with Alex Simon
(27:23), Jon McDonald (27:23), Mark Kearney (27:28), Matthew Butters (27:30) and
Davidlee Klimchuk (27:34) at the lead.
The Blue and Gold race next at the Monmouth Invitational in
Holmdel, N.J. The men's race begins at 10 a.m., while the women's race is set to
begin 45 minutes later.
