Senior Kayla Schmidt and junior Kyle Urban paced the Canisius in the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday at the Twin Ponds on the Farm in Montgomery, N.Y.
In the men's 8k race, Urban finished 19th with a time of 24:47.2. Graduate student Max Chew claimed 27th, crossing the finish line with a time of 25:18.4 while sophomore Joseph Capuzzo (25:30.0/33rd), senior Pat Garland (25:46.4/46th) and graduate student Kevin Board (25:54.0/54th) rounded out Canisius' scoring runners.
The men placed fifth with a team total of 151 points. Iona won its 34th consecutive men's title with a team total of 15 points as the Gaels had eight runners finish in the top 10. Rider was second with 73 team points while Siena (83) was third and Merrimack (129) claimed fourth.
Schmidt led the Canisius women, claiming 13th overall with a time of 21:06.2 over the 6k course. Freshman Ella Krumpek (21:53.5) placed 23rd and graduate student Jules Jones (22:05.9) finished 26th. Sophomore Jacqueline Appenheimer (22:06.7/28th), senior Taylor Heschke (22:32.7/55th) completed Canisius' scoring runners. Krumpek was named to the 2024 MAAC All-Rookie Team for her efforts.
The women placed fifth with a team total of 142 points. Quinnipiac captured the women's team title for the second year in a row as the Bobcats finished with a team total of 31 points, placing four runners in the top 10. Iona placed second with 68 team points while Rider (110) was third and Siena (117) claimed fourth.
