Griffs Golf Dream Course: Ryan Misko

Over the next month, GoGriffs.com and the team's official Twitter handle (@GriffsGolf) will run a series of features on the favorite holes for each member of the Canisius golf team. The players and head coach Todd Hummel were asked to pick their two favorite holes, provide a scouting report on how best to attack them.

Junior Ryan Misko is up next, and his two favorite golf holes come from two courses in his home state of Pennsylvania.

Hole No. 13 - Lake View Country Club (North East, Pa.)
Lake View Golf Club

Mikso's Thoughts:

It is the shortest par-5 on the course, playing only 509 yards long. However, there is plenty of trouble lurking that makes it the perfect risk-reward hole. The tee shot is not easy to execute, especially with O.B. left and trees blocking the left side of the fairway from the tee box. I always attempt to hit a draw that lands down the left side of the fairway, which will set up a fairly straightforward downhill second shot. From there, I give it a go in two and try my best to keep my ball in the proper section of the green, which features a bowl in the front right portion and a shelf in the back left. That is easier said than done, so often I am content just to give myself an eagle putt. It is a very tough two putt from anywhere on the green, so I am always happy to walk to the next tee with a birdie.

Hole No. 4 - Whispering Woods Golf Course (Erie, Pa.)
Whispering Woods Golf Club

Mikso's Thoughts:

This is the definition of a risk-reward hole, with it only playing 294 yards from the back tees. However, there is a huge bank of thick grass to the left of the green and a creek that runs to the right of the green. I almost always lay up with a hybrid or long-iron down the right side of the hole. It leaves a difficult, but manageable second shot from about 80 yards. I just try to dial in the distance, since anything short will be in the creek and anything long in the thick grass. If executed properly, I will have a birdie putt inside 15 feet. The green can be tricky, but if I make a good stroke the conservative approach should pay off with a birdie.
