Griffs Golf Dream Course: David Hanes

Over the next few weeks, GoGriffs.com and @GriffsGolf will run a series of features on the favorite holes for each member of the Canisius golf team. The players and head coach Todd Hummel were asked to pick their two favorite holes, provide a scouting report on how best to attack them.

Senior David Hanes steps up to provide the next two holes to the @GriffsGolf Dream Course. Hanes, a four-time qualifier for the Porter Cup, provides insight of two of his favorite holes from right here in Western New York.

Hole No. 13 - East Aurora Country Club (East Aurora, N.Y.)
East Aurora Country Club
Hanes' Thoughts:
"My first favorite hole is the 13th hole at East Aurora Country Club. This is a par-3, which usually plays around 190 yards. It is a unique green that is divided by a massive slope intersecting the middle. The green sits on top of a hill, and any miss long or left will send the ball 50 yards away. Wind usually plays a big factor on this hole, as the right yardage is crucial to not making a big number. I like to play this hole by hitting a knockdown 6-iron, depending on the wind and hole location. Once you're on the green, you really need to be below the hole to avoid a slick-putt down that slope that could force your ball to roll off the green. This is one of my favorite holes, as it played a crucial part in helping me win the International Junior Masters in 2016."

Hole No. 14 - Crag Burn Club (East Aurora, N.Y.)
Crag Burn Sign
Hanes' Thoughts:
"My second favorite hole is at my home course, Crag Burn Golf Club. The par-5 14th really highlights risk and reward in golf. The tee shot requires a perfectly executed shot down the center to avoid the trees and bunkers on the left. I usually hit driver left of center with a draw to leave me with the lowest yardage into the par-5. To reach the green, you must hit a 200-240-yard shot over the water to an angled-green. I will usually hit a long iron or hybrid onto the green with a high-draw or high fade so it will hold the green. If doing this correctly, I will give myself a great look at eagle and a chance to go low. This is one of my favorite holes because it really shows the risk/reward that is present in the game of golf."
