Golf Finishes Tied for 11th at Carpetbagger Classic

Canisius junior Mikey Takacs posted a two-under par score of 70, and the Golden Griffins carded a team score of 296 to move up the leaderboard and finish tied for 11th, as the Blue and Gold closed out the two-round Carpetbagger Classic Sunday at Worthington Manor Golf Club in Urbana, Md.

Takacs started his day with a birdie on his first hole, and ended his round with three more birdies en route to his 70. He finished the tournament tied for 61st with a two-round total of 154. Freshman Cole Thompson carded a five-over par score of 77 on Sunday and finished the event tied for 46th in the field with his 36-hole score of 151. Junior Alex Schickling, who was in the tournament playing as an individual, finished tied for 67th with his tournament score of 155. Schickling shot a four-over par 76 on Sunday in the final round.

As a team, Canisius moved three spots up the leaderboard on Sunday, as the Griffs recorded a team score of 296, which was eight-over par. The Griffs finished with MAAC rival Rider, which shot 303 on Sunday. Both teams posted team scores of 613. The Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers won the team event with a two-round score of 580, which was four-over par. The Mount was four strokes better than La Salle and Bryant, which finished tied for second. Loyola Marymount's Jackson Roman won individual medalist honors with his score of 137, highlighted by his score of 67 on Sunday.

Canisius will return to the course April 12-13 at the Albarta Coca-Cola Invitational at Northampton Country Club in Easton, Pa.
