Baseball Opens Series at Delaware With 10-5 Win

The Canisius College baseball team continued to jump out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning and building an 8-0 lead en route to a 10-5 win at the University of Delaware at Bob Hannah Stadium on Friday. The Golden Griffins have now won five of their last six and improve to 16-9 on the season.

Five Golden Griffins had two hits on the day with redshirt freshman Jarred Flock going 2-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBI and his first two collegiate home runs. Senior Perry Silverman was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI, extending his hitting streak to 12 games. Senior Ian Choy reached base in four of his five plate appearances, also driving in two runs.

Redshirt junior Shane Davis went eight innings for the second consecutive start, allowing four runs on 12 hits while improving to 4-2 on the season.

After Sean Jamieson reached on a one-out single and Choy was hit by a pitch, junior Steve McQuail tripled home both runners to make it 2-0. Senior Shayne Willson followed with an RBI single to give Canisius a 3-0 lead.

The Griffs broke open the game with a five-run fourth inning, scoring all five unearned runs with two outs, taking advantage of an extra error that allowed junior Brian Burton to reach. Flock homered to left -- the first of five straight hits for Canisius -- making the score 5-0. Sophomore Brad Medici singled and Silverman scored Medici with an RBI double. Jamieson brought Silverman home with an RBI single and Choy closed out the scoring with a double to left, putting Canisius up 8-0.

Delaware (11-11) scored three off Davis in the sixth, which included a two-run home run from Pat Dameron. The Griffs scored twice in the top of the eighth, with Flock leading off the inning with his second home run of the day. Silverman doubled down the left-field line and eventually scored on an RBI single from Choy.

Canisius and Delaware wrap up the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
