Finalists for Canisius Male Athlete of the Year Unveiled

The finalists for the 2025-26 Canisius Male Athlete of the Year have been announced. Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite finalist through 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 18. The winner will be announced on Friday, June 19.
 
In alphabetical order, the nominees are
 
Toby Mayfield – Men's Swimming and Diving
• Team captain
• Won eight individual races and posted 13 podium finishes during the season
• Member of one relay win and 12 top-three relay results during the year
• Took first in the 100 (51.61) and 200 fly (1:54.02) and placed third in the 200 IM (1:58.94) at Marist (Oct. 11)
• Swam fly leg of winning 200 medley relay at Rochester (Oct. 18)
• Swept the 100 (50.74) and 200 fly (1:55.93) and swam the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay that placed second versus Geneseo (Oct. 24)
• Won the 100 (53.11) and 400 IM (4:12.07) and placed second in the 200 free relay at Binghamton (Nov. 1)
• Helped set a school record in the 400 free relay (3:03.28) at the 2026 MAAC Championships (Feb. 11-14)
• Named to the MAAC All-Academic Team
 
Felix Morin – Baseball
• All-MAAC First Team selection
• Two-time MAAC Pitcher of the Week honoree
• Appeared in 16 games, making 15 starts
• Recorded six-or-more strikeouts in six outings
• Posted career bests in ERA (2.77), innings pitched (87.2) and strikeouts (71)
• Surpassed the 200-strikeout milestone for his career during the season; finished his time on Main Street with the sixth highest strikeout total in program history (204)
• Finished his career with the ninth most innings pitched (256.2) in program history
• Recorded the longest outing of his collegiate career, tossing 8.1 innings at Iona (May 1) with five strikeouts
• Recently signed a pro contract with the Quebec Capitales of the Frontier League
 
Alexis Simard – Men's Lacrosse
• All-MAAC First Team honoree
• Team Captain
• Started all 13 games played
• Led squad with 20 caused turnovers
• Finished career as program's career leader in caused turnovers (58)
• Ranked second on the squad with 31 ground balls
• Also posted career highs with five goals and six points

Kahlil Singleton – Men's Basketball
• Started all 30 games he played in
• Finished the season averaging 13.9 points per game, which tied him for the team lead and ranked 14th in the MAAC
• Averaged 3.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game
• Scored 10-or more points in 20 games, highlighted by his career-high 37-point performance against Fairfield (Jan. 2)
• His 37 points in the home win over Fairfield stand as the fourth-most points scored by a Canisius player in a game played at the Koessler Athletic Center
• Was named the MAAC Player of the Week (Jan. 5) and became the first player in program history to be honored as the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week (Jan. 6) after his performance against Fairfield
• Finished the 2025-26 season as one of two players in the nation to record multiple 30-point games and make eight-or more 3-pointers in those contests
• Scored 20-or more points seven times
 
Mikey Takacs – Golf
• Played in 10 tournaments
• Posted a team-best 74.1 stroke average
• Was the Griffs' top individual performer in eight of the team's 10 tournaments
• Led the team with five rounds under par
• Placed second at the 2025 Little Three Championship with his two-round score of 140
• Matched his career-low with a 67 in the second round of the Little Three Championship and in the opening round of the Matthews Auto Intercollegiate
• Earned three top-15 finishes
• Named to the 2025-26 MAAC Golf All-Academic Team
 
The nominees for the 2025-26 Canisius Female Athlete of the Year will be announced on June 22.
