Zwirecki Named to ABCA/Rawlings Northeast All-Region Second Team

Canisius catcher Thomas Zwirecki has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Division I All-Northeast Region Second Team for the 2026 season.

Named a MAAC All-First Team recipient in May, Zwirecki is the first Golden Griffin to earn the honor since pitcher Matt Duffy was recognized in 2023. Zwirecki was also just one of three recipients out of the Metro Conference, as Matt DeShiro (Merrimack) earned first team honors and Ben Alekson (Fairfield) was also named to the second team.

Zwirecki enjoyed a standout 2026 campaign for the Griffs as he led Canisius in batting average (.371), RBI (46), total bases (86) and on-base percentage (.487). Splitting time between catcher and first base, the East Amherst, N.Y., native recorded a team-high 309 putouts and threw out 15 runners from behind the plate.

The utility man picked up his 100th career hit in a win over Iona on May 2. Zwirecki finished the season second in the conference in both batting average and on-base percentage.

The ABCA All-America Team was first recognized in 1949 and now spans nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II, and III, the Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
