Storms and weather conditions hindered the Canisius cross country teams as
they competed in the NCAA Northeast Regional competition in Boston, Mass.
Saturday afternoon. Junior Maura Frauenhofer led the women, finishing in 86th
place in a scoring field of 277 as the Blue and Gold placed 28th
among 32 teams. Vasilis Kariolis led the men as he finished in 173th
place in a 231-wide scoring field as the Griffs finished 32nd of 36
teams.
Frauenhofer raced the 6k in 24:15, followed by sophomore
Christine Mulvihill who placed in 133rd with a time of 24:57. The
race is only the second time this season that the Lady Griffs have competed in
a 6k race, with a 5k standard for most of 2009. Samantha Garnet, Ellen Duane
and Jessica Nowak rounded out the top five for the Griffs, each finishing in
under 26:00.
The men competed in their first 6k of the season, with an 8k
standard for the majority of the 2009 season. Kariolis raced in 35:16, followed
by Alex Simon, who finished in 36:18 for 202nd place. Mark Kearney,
Jon McDonald and Davidlee Klimchuk rounded out scoring for the men, each
finishing in under 37:00.
The Golden Griffins wrap up their season with some of the
biggest accomplishments in recent program history, including a second-place
finish early in the year at the National Catholic Championship meet, a
third-place finish at conference championships, and multiple personal best
times throughout the season.
