Outdoor Track Heads to the UB Alumni Invite

The Canisius men's and women's outdoor track teams return to action on Friday as the teams travel just up the road to compete in the UB Alumni Invite at UB Stadium in Amherst, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins are coming off a weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa.

Senior Joe Pivarunas paced the Griffs on the men's side, turning in a third-place finish in the unseeded 5,000-meter event, crossing the line in 15:08.70.

The Golden Griffins also turned in three top-15 finishes in the men's mile run as freshman Jack Nesbit placed seventh (4:22.72), followed by sophomores Fenway Breckels in 10th (4:23.51), and Adam Kozman in 14th (4:25.09).

On the women's side, junior Payton Calkins turned in a 17th-place finish in the mile run, finishing in 5:26.21.

The Griffs also placed two runners in the top-20 of the 3,000-meter race, as junior Brooke Podgorski (11:21.46) and freshman Julia Gullo (11:24.46) finished 18th and 19th.

Last season at the UB Alumni Invite, the Griffs found success in multiple events. Senior Brody Jones led the way, finishing third in the 800-meter race, posting a time of 1:54.40. Sophomore Ryan Giglia finished just behind him in fourth (1:54.92), while sophomore Fenway Breckels finished eighth (1:57.15).

Sophomore Ella Herman placed 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.85) and finished 11th in the 100-meter race (18.79).

Senior Kyle Urban finished the 1,500-meter race in 3:58.64, placing fourth. Sophomore Adam Kozman placed 11th in the same event, with a time of 4:05.09.

Canisius concludes its regular-season portion of its outdoor schedule, traveling to Pittsford, N.Y. to compete in the Cardinal Classic April 24-25.
