Outdoor Track Competes in Bison Outdoor Classic

The Canisius men's and women's outdoor track teams turned in four top-ten finishes to highlight their appearance in the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell's Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa.

Senior Joe Pivarunas paced the Griffs on the men's side, turning in a third-place finish in the unseeded 5,000-meter event, crossing the line in 15:08.70.

The Golden Griffins also turned in three top-15 finishes in the men's mile run as freshman Jack Nesbit placed seventh (4:22.72), followed by sophomores Fenway Breckels in 10th (4:23.51), and Adam Kozman in 14th (4:25.09).

Canisius placed two runners in the top-15 of the men's 3,000-meter race as freshman Jack Stanford (9:10.02) and graduate student Jacob Raichel (9:18.40) placed 10th and 11th, respectively.

On the women's side, junior Payton Calkins placed 17th in the mile run with a time of 5:26.21. Sophomore Clara Sundberg finished just behind her in 23rd, finishing in 5:32.65

The Griffs also placed two runners in the top-20 of the 3,000-meter race, as junior Brooke Podgorski (11:21.46) and freshman Julia Gullo (11:24.46) finished 18th and 19th, respectively.

The Griffs will return to action April 17, as the teams compete in the UB Alumni Invite in Buffalo, N.Y.
