Junior Maura Frauenhofer and senior Vasilis Kariolis both
earned personal best times as they led the Golden Griffins at the University at
Albany Invitational Saturday afternoon. The women finished in seventh place,
with seven competitors in the top 100, while the men placed 11th
overall with five finishers in the top 100.
Frauenhofer placed eighth with a personal-best time of
17:57, and a 4:50 pace per mile. Sophomore Christine Mulvihill took 15th
overall, breaking her personal best record by 53 seconds with a time of 18:15
and pace per mile at 4:54.
Eight of the nine women's competitors and seven of the nine
men's competitors earned personal best times in the race.
Kariolis led the men with his 15th place finish,
earning a personal best time of 25:28 with a 5:08 pace per mile, while freshman
Alex Simon set a personal best of 26:12 and a 5:17 pace per mile, placing 65th
overall.
"We had strong performances overall," said head coach Pete
Osmond. "We have some mental work to do over the next two weeks so we can
accomplish everything we know we are physically capable of."
The Griffs compete next at the MAAC Championship in Van
Cortland Park in the Bronx, N.Y. on Oct. 30.
