Finalists For Male Rookie of the Year Announced

The finalists for the 2025-26 Canisius Male Rookie of the Year have been announced. Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite finalist through 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 4. The winner will be announced on Friday, June 5.

In alphabetical order, the finalists are:

FJ Buteau – Hockey
• AHA All-Rookie Team selection
• Skated in 31 games
• Led Canisius defenseman in scoring with 17 points on five goals and 12 assists
• Named AHA Defenseman of the Month for January after posting seven points (2g-5a) in seven games played
• Finished with a goal and an assist in a 4-1 victory against RIT (Jan. 17)
• Scored game-winning goal and added an assist in 5-0 shutout of Mercyhurst (Jan. 24)

Henrique Dias – Men's Soccer
• Started in all 16 games played
• Played the full 90 in 11 games, tallying a team-high 1,359 minutes played
• Recorded two shots, with both being on target
• Made his collegiate debut and first career start against VMI (Aug. 21)
• Scored his first collegiate goal in a 2-1 win against Quinnipiac (Oct. 11)

Jaxyn Mahoney – Cross Country/Track
• Two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week honoree.
• Broke both the 800-meter indoor and outdoor track school records in his first season in the Blue and Gold.
• Made his collegiate debut at the Akron AI Campbell Invitational (Jan. 16).
• Placed second in the 800-meter at the SPIRE Midwest Open with his time of 1:56.00 (Jan. 24).
• Turned in a first-place finish in the third meet of his freshman season at the YSU Mid Major Invitational, winning the mile run with his time of 4:22.24 (Jan. 30-31).
• Turned in another first-place finish the following meet at the SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games, winning the 800-meter with a time of 1:54.63 (Feb. 14).
• Earned a runner-up finish and broke the indoor school record in the 800-meter at the MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, finishing in 1:51.84 (Feb. 21-22).
• Placed first in the 800-meter at the UB Alumni Classic, setting an outdoor school record with his time of 1:51.13 (April 17).

Justin Relosky – Men's Lacrosse
• MAAC All-Rookie Team selection
• One of three players to start all 14 games
• Scored 11 goals and added six assists for 17 points
• Registered multiple goals in three games and finished with multiple points in four contests
• Also chipped in 14 ground balls and three caused turnovers
• Finished with three points (2g-1a) at Mercyhurst (Feb. 17)
• Notched three points (2g-1a) in regular-season finale against Marist (April 22)

The Canisius Female Rookie of the Year finalists will be announced on June 8.
