Men’s Basketball Adds Gerry Guerrero to 2026-27 Roster

Canisius head men's basketball coach Jim Christian announced today that Gerry Guerrero has committed to join the Golden Griffins' roster for the 2026-27 season.

Guerrero joins the Canisius program after spending the previous two seasons at the College of Southern Idaho (CSI) in Twin Falls, Idaho. A 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard, he will have three seasons of eligibility remaining, starting next year.

"Gerry is a big, strong guard who shoots the ball really well," Christian said. "He joins us after spending two seasons at the College of Southern Idaho, one of the top junior college programs in the country, and he gained valuable experience at the international level as well. I am excited to add a player with a resume like his to our roster."

A native of Tepic, Mexico, Guerrero is the first Mexican-born player in program history. He played in 30 games over two seasons with the Golden Eagles, with 27 of those contests coming during the 2024-25 campaign. Last year, Guerrero averaged 6.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in just three contests during an injury-shortened season. In his first year at Southern Idaho, he averaged 6.0 points per game, and 36 of his 53 made field goals came from 3-point land. He was also good for 2.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while helping CSI to 22-10 overall record and an appearance in the NJCAA Region 18 championship game.

Guerrero gained international basketball experience at the 2022 FIBA U18 AmeriCup, where he was a member of Team Mexico. In that tournament, he appeared in six games, where he averaged 16.2 minutes per game. In Team Mexico's quarterfinal round loss to Team USA, he grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, and in the team's consolation round win over Ecuador, he was good for 12 points in 17 minutes.
