Jim Christian Announces Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff Updates

Canisius head men's basketball coach Jim Christian announced today that Scott Galst has been elevated to a role as an assistant coach on the Golden Griffins' coaching staff for the 2026-27 season.

Last season, Galst served as the Griffs' director of basketball operations. Galst joined Christian's staff after spending two years (2023-24 and 2024-25) as a consultant with the St. John's men's basketball program, where he worked on several film-related projects including advanced opponent scouting, player development and offensive strategy. Additionally, he worked for the NBA as a senior statistical auditor, where he managed a team of 15 game-stat auditors to ensure efficient and accurate reviews of NBA game stats.

"Last year, Scott brought more to the staff than just handling team operations, and I believe this move to an assistant coaching role is the next logical step for him professionally," Christian said. "Scott has a passion for the game of basketball, and he is extremely dedicated to working with our players and putting our guys in the right position for success both on and off the court. His background in advanced scouting and analytics is an extremely valuable resource to our program."

Galst replaces former assistant coach Jimmy Hall, who elected to continue his playing career overseas after spending the 2025-26 season on the Griffs' bench.

Additionally, Christian announced that Matthew Felsenfeld has joined the coaching staff as the team's director of basketball operations. Felsenfeld comes to Canisius after spending the 2025-26 campaign at Parkland College in Champaign, Ill., where he was a part of the coaching staff that helped lead the Cobras to a 29-7 overall record and the NJCAA Division II National Championship. At Parkland, he took part in all aspects of the program, including on-floor coaching, opponent scouting, recruiting and team operations and logistics.

Prior to joining the coaching staff at Parkland, Felsenfeld was a three-year student manager for the men's basketball program at UNLV, where he assisted with day-to-day operations and team travel. A native of Boulder City, Nev., Felsenfeld graduated Cum Laude from UNLV in 2025 with his degree in sports journalism. While in Las Vegas, he also spent two years serving as a team assistant for the NBA Summer League, where he assisted with team workouts, equipment and locker room setup.
