Men’s Basketball Adds Abu Riak to 2026-27 Roster

Canisius head men's basketball coach Jim Christian announced today that Abu Riak has committed to join the Golden Griffins' roster for the 2026-27 season.

A native of Melbourne, Australia, Riak recently completed his scholastic career at Combine Academy in Lincolnton, N.C. He is the third high school senior to join the Canisius roster for next season, along with Dorsett Mulcahy and Alex Mack.

"Abu has very good size and length, he has a great motor and he has a versatile skillset at both ends of the floor," Christian said. "He is a big-time rebounder, one of the best in the Overtime Elite (OTE) circuit, and he is good as both a playmaker and a finisher in transition. We are excited to add a player like Abu to our roster for next season."

A 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward, Riak averaged 9.4 points per game for Combine Academy last season. He was listed as one of the top-10 wing/small forward players in the 2026 graduating class from the state of North Carolina.
