Outdoor Track Enjoys Solid Outing at UB Alumni Invite

Junior Jacqueline Appenheimer won the women's 5,000-meter race to lead the Canisius men's and women's outdoor track teams in the UB Alumni Invite Friday at UB Stadium in Amherst, N.Y.

Appenheimer claimed the race in 18:07.91, finishing more than 11 seconds ahead of the field, to highlight the Golden Griffins' day at the track that saw them post a combined 16 top-10 finishes at the meet.

For the Canisius women, senior Taylor Heschke turned in a pair of top-10 results, recording a third-place result in the 800-meter race (2:19.76) and a sixth-place run in 1,500-meter race (4.52.12). Fellow senior Kayla Schmidt also posted a top-10 result in the 1,500-meter race as she crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 4:47.61.

Senior Stephanie Seyfang fashioned a pair of top-10 results in the two hurdles races, placing fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.85) and eighth in the 400-meter race (1:10.53). Freshman Ella Herman placed 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.85) and finished 11th in the 100-meter race (18.79).

The Canisius men were led by sophomore Brody Jones, who turned in a third-place finish in the 800-meter race, finishing in 1:54.40 to highlight a quartet of top-10 finishes in the race as freshman Ryan Giglia took fourth (1:54.92), senior Kevin Board placed seventh (1:56.20) and freshman Fenway Breckels took eighth (1:57.15)  

Junior Braden Tent claimed eighth place in the men's 800-meter race, crossing the finish line in 52.41.

Sophomore Kyle Urban ran a 3:58.64 race in the men's 1,500-meter to take fourth place while graduate student Max Chew crossed in 4:01.15 to take eighth. Freshman Adam Kozman placed 11th in men's 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:05.09.

Junior Lucas Hoyt placed ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 11:45.55.

In the men's 4x400 relay, the quartet of Jones, junior Joe Pivarunas, graduate student Kevin Board and junior Colin Madigan took second with a time of 3:29.92. The Griffs second grouping of Breckels, Giglia, Kozman and freshman Noah Covert claimed fourth with a 3:37.72.
