Takacs Earns Co-Medalist Honors at 2024 Little Three Championship

Canisius sophomore Mikey Takacs fired a two-under-par score of 70 in the second round of the 2024 Little Three Championship on Tuesday afternoon at Crag Burn Golf Club in East Aurora, N.Y., to earn a share of the tournament's individual championship.

Takacs' second-round 70 followed his opening-round score of 72, and his two-round total of 142 (-2) on Tuesday makes him the first Golden Griffin golfer to win the event's individual medalist honors since Hunter Sagar won the event in a four-hole playoff in 2014.

Takacs' second round featured nine birdies, including a stretch of four straight between hole Nos. 7-10. The Iowa City, Iowa, native ended his day with birdies on two of the last three holes on the course, and his 15-foot birdie putt on 18 allowed him to tie St. Bonaventure's Michael Bucko for the tournament's individual crown. Bucko, who shot a one-under 71 in both rounds, was one of three golfers tied atop the leaderboard after the opening round.

Takacs and Bucko were joined by Canisius senior Ryan Edholm as the only three golfers in the tournament to finish under par. Edholm finished third, his third career top-finish, after he carded a 36-hole score of 143 (71-72). Canisius sophomore Jake Dantonio earned his first collegiate top-five finish by placing fourth with a score of 145 (71-74), while senior Ben Ramold and sophomore Alex Schickling tied for 14th with a tournament score of 157.

St. Bonaventure won its eighth-straight Little Three Championship after the Bonnies posted a team score of 579, highlighted by a second-round team tally of 283, which was five-under-par. Canisius took second with a team score of 587, while Niagara finished third with a team score of 603.

The golf team will return to action Oct. 6-7 when the Blue and Gold travels to play in the Matthews Auto Collegiate, hosted by Binghamton, at the Links at Hiawatha in Apalachin, N.Y.
