On the Tee
• The Canisius golf team closes out the 2026 spring season this week, as the Golden Griffins take part in the 2026 MAAC Men's Golf Championship at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The 54-hole event starts Tuesday, with 18 holes being played April 28-30.
• This marks the 23rd time since 2000 where the MAAC has hosted its conference championship tournament on the Disney Wide World of Sports property. This year also marks the first time in league history where the conference's men's and women's golf championships have been played separately.
Last year, the Griffs tied for eighth in the 11-team field with a three-round score of 902. Dating back to 2018, Canisius has placed as high as fifth in the league's championship tournament on three occasions (2018, 2019 and 2021).
• Canisius' best team finish at the MAAC Golf Championship came in 1997, when the Blue and Gold placed third. In 2013, Canisius finished fourth in the team event, which is the best team finish for the program since that effort in 1997.
• The championship team at this year's MAAC Golf Championship earns the league's automatic berth into the 2026 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship.
• Additionally, the individual champion at this event not only earns a bid into the 2026 NCAA Golf Championship, but also earns the McLeod Trophy as the league's top golfer.

Current Griffs in MAAC Championship Events
• Four members of this year's team have previously played in the MAAC Championship, led by juniors Jake Dantonio, Alex Schickling and Mikey Takacs, who will be making their third career appearance in the MAAC Golf Championship.
• Last year, former Griff Ryan Edholm earned All-MAAC honors after he finished tied for sixth with his three-round total of 215, which was one-under par. Edholm's 215 stands as the lowest MAAC Championship score for a Canisius golfer since the conference's title event moved to 54 holes in 2002.
• Edholm's effort last year allowed him to become just the fourth Canisius golfer in program history to earn multiple All-MAAC Championship accolades. Former Griff and Canisius Sports Hall of Famer Glen Gast finished in the top-10 of the MAAC Championship three times (1995, 1996 and 1997), while Drew Creighton (2008, 2009) and David Hanes (2017, 2018) each earn All-MAAC Championship status twice, each.
• Takacs finished tied for 22nd in last year's field with his tournament score of 224 (+8), highlighted by his even-par round of 72 after the event's first 18 holes.

Last Time Out
• Canisius finished 15th in the field at the Roar-EE Invitational, hosted by Columbia, at Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston, N.Y.
• Takacs fired a two-under par score of 70 in the opening round, and followed that effort with a 73 to record a two-round score of 143, which placed him in a tie for 14th.
• Takacs' 70 was his eighth round at-par or better this season.
