After two weeks off, the Canisius golf team returns to the course Oct. 7-8 at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational tournament, hosted by Binghamton. The two-day, 36-hole event will once again be played at the Links of Hiawatha Landing Golf Course in Apalachin, N.Y.

ON THE TEE
• Canisius returns to the Matthews Auto Collegiate tournament for the 12th time. The Griffs have been in the field at this annual event in every year it has been played, going back to the fall of 2013.
• In 2019, Canisius ended this tournament tied for the team championship with MAAC rival Rider, after both teams posted a team-score of 285. The 2019 event was cut to just one round after the second round was washed out due to rain.
• Seven of the 17 teams in this year's tournament field are members of the MAAC. Fellow MAAC schools joining Canisius on the course this weekend include Iona, Niagara, Saint Peter's and Siena, along with league newcomers Merrimack and Sacred Heart.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Canisius golf team took second-place at the 70th edition of the Little Three Golf Championship, which was played at Crag Burn Golf Club in East Aurora, N.Y. The Griffs posted a two-round team score of 587, which was seven strokes behind team champion St. Bonaventure.
• Sophomore Mikey Takacs earned a share of individual medalist honors at the Little Three with his two-round score of 142 (-2), highlighted by his second-round 70, which was two-under par. Takacs is the first Canisius golfer to win individual medalist honors at the Little Three since 2014.
• Canisius ended the Little Three with three of the top-five finishers in the field. Senior Ryan Edholm placed third with his tournament score of 143 (-1), while sophomore Jake Dantonio earned his first career-top-five finish with a score of 145 (+1).

NEXT ON THE TEE...
• The Griffs will close out the 2024 fall season at the 54-hole Bucknell Fall Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. That event will feature 18 holes over three days from Oct. 13-15.
