Senior Kayla Schmidt won the women's 5k race to pace the Canisius men's and women's cross country teams at the Canisius Alumni Classic Saturday at Delawark Park in Buffalo.
Schmidt paced the Golden Griffins in the women's race, winning with a time of 17:54.1. Freshman Ella Krumpek (17:58.8/3rd) and graduate student Jules Jones (18:25.2/9th) both posted top-10 finishes. Junior Jacqueline Appenheimer (18:35.5/12th) and freshman Nadalie Latchaw (18th/18:55.7) rounded out the top five finishers for Canisius.
Canisius took first place with a team total of 39 points, edging out second place Saint Francis (Pa.) by one point. Buffalo took third with a team total of 55 points.
In the men's 8k, junior Kyle Urban paced the Griffs with a fifth-place finish as he crossed the line in 25:18.3. Graduate student Max Chew (25:50.8/15th), graduate student Kevin Board (25:51.7/16th), junior Brody Jones (25:59.1/18th) and sophomore Joseph Capuzzo (26:08.1/19th) rounded out the top five finishers for Canisius.
Buffalo won the men's race with a team total of 26 points. Canisius finished in second with a team total of 64 points and Le Moyne cliamed third (124 points).
