Outdoor Track Wins Multiple Events at UB Team Invitational

The Canisius men's and women's outdoor track teams traveled across town to the University at Buffalo Saturday afternoon to compete in the UB Team Invitational at UB Stadium. Both the men and the women posted a fourth-place finish in the overall standings, with multiple runners securing wins in their respective events.
 
On the women's side, grad student Leah Wardner finished in first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.00. The Orchard Park, N.Y., native now ranks third all-time in the Canisius record books in the event. Junior Olivia Moran came in seventh place in both the 800 and 1500-meter runs, posting personal-best times of 2:27.91 and 4:55.00, respectively.  
 
Senior Libby Benzer finished third in the 1500, crossing the finish line in 4:44.42. In the 5000-meter run, sophomore Jules Jones took home fourth place for the Griffs with her time of 18:51.67, while junior Rylee Campeau clocked in at 19:19.03 in seventh place.
 
Sophomore Stephanie Seyfang competed in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fifth with a mark of 17.38. In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Katie Gawronski recorded a third-place finish (1:08.51).
 
Junior Marissa Silba won the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:20.87. The 4x400 meter relay team of freshman Madison Serapilio, senior Bailey Pierce, Gawronski and Wardner also took first for the Blue and Gold, finishing in 4:23.87.
 
On the men's side, juniors Tom Appenheimer and Andrew Perreault finished first and second in the 5000-meter with times of 14:40.32 and 14:45.00, respectively. Sophomore Thomson Chew also ran well in the event, posting a fifth-place finish for the Griffs (15:43.99). Senior Richard Moore took eighth in the 5000, while sophomore Pat Garland came in right behind in ninth.
 
In the 1500, fifth-year Turner Dirrigl ran the race in 4:00.80 to secure fifth place. Sophomore Kevin Board took home seventh with a personal-best time of 4:06.18. The 4x400 relay grouping of Board, Dirrigl, freshman Jacob Raichel and sophomore Ronan McDonald finished in second place for Canisius with a mark of 3:33.30.

Select runners will head to Philadelphia, Pa., to compete in the Penn Relays April 28-30.
