Relay Teams Break Program Records at ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships

Select runners on the Canisius men's and women's indoor track teams competed in the ECAC/IC4A Championships Saturday and Sunday at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. The meet was highlighted by program records in both the men's and women's 4x800 meter relay and PR's in all four individual events.

The women's 4x800 team of fifth-year Leah Wardner, sophomore Katie Gawronski, junior Marissa Silba and senior Libby Benzer recorded a time of 9:35.98 to set the Canisius indoor program record in the event. The time was just under seven seconds faster than the previous record.

On the men's side, the grouping of graduate student Turner Dirrigl, senior Richard Moore and sophomores Ronan McDonald and Kevin Board also established a program record in the 4x800. The team secured a ninth-place finish in the race with a time of 7:44.33.

In the individual events, junior Andrew Perreault ran a personal-best 4:08.91 in the one-mile run. Perreault is only the second Golden Griffin in school history to break the 4:10 barrier. In the 5000-meter run, senior Michael Peppy clocked a career-best time of 14:29.36. Junior Tom Appenheimer came in just over one-tenth of a second behind Peppy with his PR of 14:29.51. Peppy and Appenheimer sit at third and fourth on the all-time lists in the event, respectively. Benzer closed out the individual events for the Griffs on Sunday with her personal best time in the 3000-meter run (9:55.62), which is good for second all-time in the Canisius indoor record books.

Canisius will take a short break before kicking off the outdoor portion of its season on April 2 at the SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invitational.
