Cross Country Sweeps Little Three Championship Friday

The Canisius men's and women's cross country teams began the 2021 season Friday evening claiming the individual and team titles on both the men's and women's side. Being held in Youngstown, N.Y., the Little Three Championship featured regional rivals Niagara and St. Bonaventure, as well as the Golden Griffins. 

On the men's side of competition, senior Michael Peppy claimed the individual title crossing the finish line in a time of 15:40.52. Junior Tom Appenheimer finished third with a time of 15:54.74, while fellow junior Andrew Perreault finished just behind in fourth place (15:56.23). Overall, Canisius posted five top-10 finishes, en route to their 15th consecutive Little Three Championship. 

Senior Libby Benzer paced the Blue and Gold with a first-place effort of her own, finishing in a time of 19:25.21. Freshman Taylor Heschke finished fourth in her collegiate debut (19:53.89). The Golden Griffins recorded six top-10 finishes on the women's side, claiming its 17th Little Three title in the past 19 attempts.


Canisius returns to action Sept. 17, as the Blue and Gold travel to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the National Catholic Championships.
