Men’s Cross Country Takes Fifth at National Catholic Championships

The Canisius men's and women's cross country teams continued the 2021 campaign Friday evening at the National Catholic Championships, hosted by Notre Dame.

Held in South Bend, Ind., the 52nd annual National Catholic Championships is the premier cross country meet for the nation's catholic programs.

On the men's side of competition, the trio of senior Michael Peppy and juniors Tom Appenheimer and Andrew Perreault led the Blue and Gold to a fifth-place finish as a team. Appenheimer claimed 15th in a time of 26:14.7. Peppy and Perreault recorded 21st and 23rd place finishes, respectively for the Golden Griffins.

Senior Libby Benzer once again paced the Griffs with a 24th-place finish, crossing the finish line in a time of 19:21.5. The Canisius women wraped up the event with an 11th-place finish.

Host Notre Dame swept both the men's and women's titles as the Fighting Irish recorded a perfect score of 15 to claim the women's championship.
