Five Things to Know Before Canisius Plays Manhattan in MAAC Quarterfinals
1. Griffs Open MAAC Championship Play
• Canisius will play its first game in the 2019 MAAC Men's Basketball Championship Friday night at 9:30 p.m., when the second-seeded Golden Griffins take on No. 7 seed Manhattan in the quarterfinal round. Canisius earned the No. 2 seed in this year's tournament thanks to an 11-7 record in MAAC play during the regular season. This marks the second-straight season where the Griffs have been the No. 2 seed, and it marks the fifth time in program history where to team is seeded second in postseason play.

2. It's Been a While
• Canisius and Manhattan will be meeting in the MAAC Men's Basketball Championship for just the second time since Canisius joined the MAAC prior to the 1989-90 academic year. The Griffs first MAAC Championship game was a 61-59 win over Manhattan on March 2, 1990.

3. Multiple Griffs Earn MAAC Honors
•
Sophomore Takal Molson earned All-MAAC First Team honors and junior guard Malik Johnson was named Third-Team All-MAAC, the conference office announced Monday. Molson is just the 10th player in school history to earn All-MAAC Firat Team accolades, and he is the third Canisius sophomore to receive the award. This marks the third-straight year where multiple Canisius players have been named to postseason all-conference teams.

4. Molson Continues to Score
•
Takal Molson closed out the regular season ranked third in the MAAC with his 17.0 points per game scoring average, highlighted by his eight games with 20-or more points scored. The Buffalo, N.Y., native enters the conference tournament with 510 points scored this season, which ranks fifth in program history to points scored in a season by a sophomore.

5. Johnson Orders a Double-Double
• Malik Johnson posted his second career double-double in the win over Siena March 1 after he scored 10 points to go with a career-high 12 assists. The 12 assists for Johnson, who ranks third in the MAAC with 4.8 assists per game this season, are the most for a Canisius player at the Koessler Athletic Center since former Griff Billy Baron had 13 helpers in a home win over Siena Dec. 8, 2013.
