Vinny Sigona Commits to Join Men’s Basketball Program

Canisius head men's basketball coach Jim Christian announced today that Vinny Sigona has signed to join the Golden Griffins' roster for the 2026-27 season.

A 6-foot, 165-pound guard from Plano, Texas, Sigona joins the Canisius roster after playing the 2025-26 season at East Texas A&M University. He will have one year of collegiate eligibility remaining, starting in the 2026-27 season.

"Vinny is a veteran guard who can really shoot the basketball," Christian said. "His father is a coach and played college basketball as well, and that has helped craft him into a dynamic floor general. I see him as a valuable veteran voice for our program, both on and off the floor."

Sigona played 28 games and made six starts at East Texas A&M last season, where he averaged 8.1 points per game. He finished the season shooting 40.2 percent (72-for-179) from the field, 40.1 percent (63-for-157) from 3-point land and 87.5 percent (21-for-24) from the free-throw line. His 2.3 3-point field goal makes per game led East Texas A&M and ranked seventh-best in the Southland Conference. He scored 10-or more points in 12 games, including a 17-point performance in the team's final game of the season at Texas A&M Corpus-Christi, and he finished the 2025-26 campaign with multiple 3-point makes in 17 games.

In 2024-25, Sigona started 30 games at Collin College, an NJCAA school located in Plano, Texas. There, he led the team with a 16.5 points per game scoring average after registering double-digits in the scoring column 25 times. He ended his time at Collin College by shooting 44.6 percent from the field, with 80 of his 170 makes from the field coming from behind the 3-point line.

Sigona started his college career at Louisiana in 2022-23, where he played in five games as a true freshman. He sat out the 2023-24 campaign for the Ragin' Cajuns and earned a medical redshirt season after suffering a preseason injury. In high school, he was honored as a First Team All-State performer and earned First Team All-District honors after leading Prestonwood Christian Academy to a district championship with 17 points per game in his senior season. He ended his scholastic career by scoring 1,551 total points after he made 336 3-pointers.
