Men’s Basketball Signs Michael Wilson Jr.

Canisius head men's basketball coach Jim Christian announced today that Michael Wilson Jr. has signed to join the Golden Griffins' roster for the 2026-27 season.

Wilson Jr., who played the 2025-26 season at Bellarmine in Louisville, Ky., joins the Canisius program from the NCAA Transfer Portal. He will have two years of collegiate eligibility remaining, starting next season.

"Michael is a dynamic wing, and he is a complete offensive player," Christian said. "He fits the exact style we are looking to play. He can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket, and he has a real knack for scoring in the paint. His father is a coach, so he understands the game on all levels and he appreciates the work that goes into making himself a better player."

Wilson Jr. played in 30 games during the 2025-26 season at Bellarmine, where he averaged 5.7 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures eight times, highlighted by his 20-point performance against Midway. He also posted 19 points at Kansas State, 17 points at Notre Dame and 16 points against Kentucky. In 30 games, he shot 48.4 percent from the floor.

Prior to his time at Bellarmine, Wilson Jr. played at Division II North Greenville, where he started 25 of 26 games during the 2024-25 campaign. There, he averaged 16.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 42.8 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from behind the 3-point line. He was honored as the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month in February of 2025 after he was good for 20.4 points and 6.5 boards per game over an eight-game stretch, highlighted by his career-high 32-point performance in the Trailblazers' final home game.

A native of Charlotte, N.C., Wilson Jr., was named to the All-Elite Prep (ELP) Second Team after his senior year at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. He helped Fork Union win the 2023-24 ELP championship, which earned the school a berth in the National Prep Championship tournament.
