Will Fowler Commits to Men’s Basketball for 2026-27 Season

Canisius head men's basketball coach Jim Christian announced today that Will Fowler will join the Golden Griffin men's basketball program for the 2026-27 season.

Fowler, who played the 2025-26 season at Division II Converse University in Spartanburg, S.C., joins the Canisius program from the NCAA Transfer Portal. He will have three years of collegiate eligibility remaining, starting next season.

"Will brings several important intangibles to our program," Christian said. "Both of his parents are coaches, and that is evident in the way he plays the guard position. He is tough, has a high basketball IQ, and is a leader. We are really excited to add a player like Will to our program."

A 6-foot-2, 190-pound guard from Duncan, S.C., Fowler played 17 games and made 15 starts at Converse in an injury-shortened 2025-26 season. In those 17 games, he averaged 19.9 points, 3.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game for the Valkyries. Despite playing just 17 games as a redshirt-freshman, he set a program record with 338 total points and he became the first player in program history to score 30-or more points in three-or more games, highlighted by a program-high 37-point performance against Ferrum College on Jan. 3. He shot 47.6 percent from the floor and knocked down 42.9 percent of his shots from 3-point range.

Before his time at Converse, Folwer spent the 2024-25 campaign at Saginaw Valley State, where he took a redshirt season. In his senior year at Byrnes High School, he averaged 18.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. A member of Byrnes' 1,000-point club, he set a school record with 41 points in a game during his senior season. A two-time all-region honoree and the All-Spartanburg area Player of the Year in 2023-24, he was also named to the 2023-24 Class 5A Boys All-State Team by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.

A two-sport athlete at Byrnes High School, where he also played football, Fowler led Byrnes to a state championship final appearance in 2023-24 and he was eventually selected to the Carolina Classic All-Star Game for Team South Carolina.
