Five Things to Know Before Canisius Plays Niagara
1. Western New York's Best College Rivalry Renewed
• Canisius and Niagara
will meet for the 182nd time in series history on Saturday night when the two long-time rivals clash in the Koessler Athletic Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The Griffs are 7-3 in the last 10 games of the series, however, the Purple Eagles swept Canisius last season, Niagara's first regular-season sweep of the Blue and Gold since the 2011-12 campaign. Niagara leads the series, which started in 1904, by a 99-82 count.

2. This Canisius Team in Rare Company
• Canisius moved to 7-1 in MAAC play last Sunday when the Griffs went on the road and beat Iona 84-82. That win, the program's first in Iona's Hynes Center since 2013-14, allowed Canisius to get off to its best MAAC start since 1996-97, the last year John Beilein served as the bench boss for the Blue and Gold. Canisius' road win at Iona also gives this year's team a road win at Manhattan and Iona, the first time the Griffs have won road games against the Jaspers and the Gaels in the same season since 2006-07. Canisius is 13-8 overall thanks to earning wins in nine of their last 10 outings.

3. Griffs Not So Friendly At Home
• The Canisius men's basketball team moved to 7-1 at home on the season with its 94-79 win over Monmouth Jan. 14, the team fifith-straight home victory, dating back to Dec. 19. Last season, Canisius went 7-7 at home, the fifth-straight season where the team was .500 or better in home contests.

4. That 70s Show
• Canisius improved to 9-2 on the season when scoring 70-or more points in a game this season after the Griffs defeated Iona 84-82 Jan. 21 in New Rochelle, N.Y. Dating back to last year, Canisius is 27-10 in games when reach 70-plus on the scoreboard.

5. Reese Earns Player of the Week Honors, Again
• Canisius sophomore Isaiah Reese was named the MAAC Player of the Week on Monday after he helped Canisius to a pair of road wins last weekend at Manhattan and Iona. The Miami, Fla., native has scored 20-plus points in three-straight games and in four of the team's last six contests. He ranks in the top-10 of the MAAC in scoring, assists, 3-point field goal makes and steals per game. He actually leads the conference in steals per game with 2.3 per contest, which ranks 20th in the nation.
