Box Score KENT, Ohio – The Canisius Baseball team used a two-run rally in the top of the seventh inning to edge Kent State 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon. With the win the Griffs improve to 13-15 overall, while The Golden Flash fall to 20-9.
The Blue and Gold used a pair of rallys in the fifth and seventh innings to take a slim one-run lead over the Golden Flash late in the game. In the fifth frame, the Griffs scored three runs thanks in large part to a Jake Lumley double which drove in a pair to make it 4-3.
Canisius' knockout blow came in the seventh as a Ryan Stekl RBI single and a bases-loaded walk by Adam Tricarico helped tilt the contest in Canisius' favor.
Canisius kept Kent State off balance throwing seven different pitchers. Jared Kennedy got the start for Canisius and worked two scoreless innings, allowing just two hits.
Andrew Kneussle and Tyler Smith combined for the next three innings, as the duo allowed four hits and four runs collectively.
Nolan Hunt relieved Smith and helped put a stop to the Kent State offense, working 1.2 innings and yielding just one hit and fanning two in the outing.
Andrew Sipowicz and Michael Ginther came on, and worked an inning combined, before Iannick Remillard came on finished the final 1.1 innings and surrendered just one hit. With the perfect 1.1 inning, Remillard earned his sixth save of the season.
Stekl led the team in hits in the contest with a pair in five at bats and a game-tying RBI. Lumley paced the Griffs in RBI with two.
Canisius is back in action this weekend as the squad resumes MAAC play in Fishkill, N.Y. The Griffs take on the Jaspers in a doubleheader on April 9, beginning at noon, with the series finale coming on April 10. The finale start time is also noon.
