Baseball Canisius College Athletics

Buffalo Downs Baseball, 5-4

Box Score

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Buffalo used a four-run top of the third inning to defeat the Canisius baseball team, 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex. With the loss the Griffs dropped to 15-17 overall, while the Bulls improved to 11-17.

With the score, 1-0 in favor of Canisius, the Blue and Gold suffered through an error-plagued frame in the third, as errors by Adam Tricarico and Liam Wilson led to three runs during the three hit, four run rally.

Zachary Sloan saw his first action since his injury earlier in the season and he threw an effective first frae, allowing just one hit and one walk, while striking out one before being relieved by freshman Andrew Kneussle.

Kneussle took the loss as he droppex to 1-2 on the season. The first year pitcher worked 1.2 inning, allowed three hits and three runs (one earned) in the game.

The trio of Michael Ginther, Tyler Smith and Andrew Sipowicz combined for 4.1 innings of work and allowed a pair of runs in that span.

Jared Kennedy came on following Sipowicz, failed to get out the single batter he faced, and was lifted in favor of Aaron Casper who pitched a clean two innings of work, fanning a pair and surrendering no hits or walks.

Brandon Mumaw got the start for Buffalo and kept Canisius batters guessing for most of the afternoon, working six innings, and giving up just five hits, and four walks, and allowing two runs, to improve to 2-4.

Offensively Canisius managed just six hits, with Jake Lumley and Liam Wilson accounting for a pair each. A two-RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning, gave Tricarico two RBI for the afternoon, as he led the team.

Canisius got on the board first as a sacrifice fly by Lumley drove in Wilson for the first run of the game.

Later in the contest, with the score 5-2, Buffalo pitcher Blair Lakso came on and struggled with command, as he issued two walks and hit a batter to load the bases. With two outs, Tricarico rapped a single throught he right side driving in both Wilson and Lumley, but that's where the rally ended, leaving the score 5-4.

The Bulls held the Griffs scoreless the rest of the way, as Logan Harasta came on and set down the Griffs in order to end the game, with the Bulls defeating Canisius 5-4.

The Griffs now turn their attention back to MAAC play as the squad heads to Lawrenceville, N.J. to take on Rider this weekend. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday with the finale taking place on Sunday.
