Canisius scored in three of its first four at-bats, including three runs in the top of the first inning as the first five batters of the game reached. Gruarin had an RBI single and Pettit had a two-RBI double as the Griffs jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead. Canisius added a run in the second on an RBI double from Torralba. The Redhawks then scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, chasing Canisius starter Alex Tufts. Bryce Redeker started the inning with a leadoff homer - the first of four Redhawks to reach to start the bottom of the fourth. Miami continued the rally late in the inning as six consecutive batters reached with two outs off reliever Nathan Linseman (3-2).

Canisius made it a one-run game in the top of the sixth as Torralba started the rally after being hit by a pitch with one out. After Gruarin singled to put runners at the corners, the junior stole second to get two runners in scoring position. Sophomore Shane Zimmer had an RBI groundout and Pettit singled to shortstop to score Gruarin and make it 9-8. Miami came right back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth off reliever Tim Seil. Canisius cut the deficit to 12-10 with two runs in the top of the eighth. Hernandez led off with a single, Torralba had his third double of the day and Gruarin was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Zimmer then hit into a double play, that scored Hernandez. Pettit followed with a triple to make it a two-run game.

After Miami added one in the bottom of the eighth, Canisius mounted one final rally in the ninth. Pinch hitter Brooklyn Foster led off with a single and Kelso followed with a single. Hernandez then walked with one out to load the bases. However, Torralba hit into a double play to end the game.

Linseman took the loss, allowing three runs in a third of an inning. Senior Ryan Fennell threw 2.2 innings of relief and allowed one run while striking out three.
