Baseball?s Six-Game Winning Streak Snapped at Le Moyne

The Canisius College baseball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end in a 6-5 non-conference loss at Le Moyne at Dick Rockwell Field in Syracuse in Tuesday. The Golden Griffins fall to 22-12 overall and are 11-4 in their last 15 games, with all four losses coming by one run.

Sophomore Drew Pettit was the only Griff with a multi-hit day, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Senior Perry Silverman had four RBI, all coming on a second-inning grand slam. Junior Steve McQuail extended his hitting streak to 15 games and reached base in three of his five plate appearances.

The Griffs jumped out to a five-run lead, getting four in the second and one in the third. Redshirt freshman Jarred Flock reached on a wild pitch after a strikeout and moved up on a sacrifice bunt. Senior Paul Panik and junior Will Chomicki were hit by a pitch to load the bases. Silverman then cleared the bases with a grand slam to give Canisius the 4-0 lead. The Griffs added another run in the third when McQuail led off with a single, stole second and scored on a two-out, RBI single from Pettit.

Le Moyne (19-17) responded with four in the third and two in the fourth to take a lead the Dolphins wouldn't relinquish. Le Moyne hit back-to-back homers in the third - getting a three-run home run from Chris Edmondson and a solo homer from Sean Paino to make it 5-4. Le Moyne then got a two-out, two-RBI single from Brett Botsford in the fourth to take a 6-5 lead.

Canisius had the tying run into scoring position three times in the final four innings but went hitless in four at-bats, unable to tie the game.

Redshirt freshman Nathan Linseman (1-1) took the loss, allowing six runs in four innings. Redshirt freshman Billy Martin threw four scoreless innings of relief, allowing just three hits.

Canisius returns to conference action this weekend, playing six of its next seven games at the Demske Sports Complex. The Golden Griffins host Siena this weekend, with first pitch for Saturday's doubleheader set for 12 p.m.

Game Notes: Canisius is now 3-6 on the season in one-run games... Canisius lost for the first time in four meetings between the teams in Syracuse...
