Canisius College senior volleyball player Mary Boller has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week while fellow senior Leigh Launhardt (right) has been selected as the league's Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Boller was named to the Colgate Invitational All-Tournament Team after averaging four kills and 1.29 blocks per game while posting a .358 attack percentage in the Golden Griffins' two matches against Princeton and Colgate. In the team's 3-1 win over the host Raiders, Boller pounded down 17 kills and now ranks sixth in school history with 969 career kills. Boller moved into sixth-place all-time in school history in career attack attempts in the team's loss to Princeton, passing former Griff player Jennifer DeBee. She ranks sixth in the MAAC in kills per game with 3.35 this season and second in the league in blocks per game average at 1.22 per contest.
Launhardt totaled 16 blocks in two matches last weekend to average 2.29 blocks per game against Princeton and Colgate. She also collected 17 kills in the win over Colgate, where she piled up three solo blocks and five block assists. Launhardt is currently ranked fourth in program history with 359 career blocks, 35 shy of passing former Canisius player Maggie O'Brien for third all-time in school history. She ranks first in the league in blocks per game average with 1.74 per outing, and her team-high .331 attack percentage is fourth best in the MAAC.
The Griffs are 6-4 in 2006 and close out non-conference play Tuesday, Sept. 12, at cross-town rival Buffalo. Match time is set for 7 p.m. Canisius opens MAAC play Sept. 16-17, at Siena and Marist.
