Zwirecki, Cox, Morin Named to All-MAAC First Team; 19 Named to MAAC All-Academic Team

Canisius senior Felix Morin, redshirt junior Thomas Zwirecki and redshirt freshman Bennett Cox were all named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference First Team as the conference office announced its regular season baseball award winners on Tuesday.

Zwirecki earned All-MAAC honors as a utility player following a standout season for the Golden Griffins. Splitting time between
catcher and first base, he recorded a team-high 309 putouts and threw out 15 runners from behind the plate. Offensively, the East Amherst, N.Y., native led Canisius in batting average (.371), RBI (46), total bases (86), and on-base percentage (.487). He enters the postseason ranked second in the MAAC in batting average and first in on-base percentage.

Cox garnered All-MAAC accolades as a designated hitter following a regular season that saw Cox lead the team in hits (60) and runs scored (41) while being one of the hardest hitters in the league to strike out as he was retired by strikeout in just 10 of his 168 plate appearances during the regular season. The Newtown Square, Pa., native also showcased his speed on the base paths, successfully stealing 18-of-19 bases to rank seventh in the MAAC while registering 18 multi-hit games during the season.

Morin secured All-MAAC recognition for the first time in his career as the left-hander finished the regular season with a career-low 2.77 ERA to go along with career highs in innings pitched (81.1) and strikeouts (67). Heading into the postseason, Morin ranks second in the MAAC in ERA and innings pitched. During Canisius' final regular season series against Siena, the Quebec City, Quebec native recorded his 200th career strikeout, moving him into sixth place in program history.

The conference office also announced the All-Academic Team on Tuesday with 19 student-athletes making the list.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Fairfield led the conference with 20 student-athletes recognized, while Canisius and Marist tied for second with 19 selections.
