Zwirecki, LoPinto Garner Final Weekly Award Honors

Redshirt junior Thomas Zwirecki and junior Joe LoPinto have earned Northeast Beef Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Baseball weekly awards, the conference office announced Monday.

Zwirecki was named Player of the Week after a standout performance in the series against Siena. The utility man finished the weekend 8-for-13 at the plate, tallying 11 RBI, seven runs scored, three doubles and a grand slam. In the series opener, Zwirecki went 4-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI and four runs scored. In game two, he added two more hits to go along with two RBI and two runs scored. In the series finale, the redshirt junior launched a grand slam in the second inning before adding an RBI double later in the game to help cap off the series sweep.

On the mound, LoPinto was named the Pitcher of the Week after delivering a dominant performance in game two of the Griffs' series against Siena. Making the start, LoPinto tossed 7.0 innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out a career-high nine batters to earn the win. The outing also marked the longest appearance of his collegiate career.

Canisius travels to Wappingers Falls, N.Y., May 20-23 as the No. 5 seed in the 2026 MAAC Baseball Championships. The Griffs will take on No. 4 seed Merrimack on Wednesday in the opening round with a 3 p.m. first pitch at Heritage Financial Park.
