Former Canisius baseball standout Jackson Strong has been ranked as the No. 29 prospect in the Detroit Tigers organization and has been selected to participate in the MLB Spring Breakout Showcase, an event that highlights many of the top prospects across Major League Baseball.
Strong became the 16th player in program history to be selected in the MLB Draft when the Detroit Tigers chose him in the seventh round of the 2024 MLB Draft.
In his two seasons in the Tigers organization, Strong has fashioned a .268 batting average, 53 RBI, 23 doubles, 23 stolen bases and 54 walks in 105 games played at the Class A and High A levels. He was named a Post-Season All-Star with the Class A Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Florida State League following a 2025 campaign that saw him post a .277 batting average, 16 doubles, 42 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 73 games played before being promoted to the Michigan Whitecaps in early August for the remainder of the season.
During his time with the Griffs, Strong appeared in 111 career games, making 93 starts. He finished his collegiate career with a .342 batting average, ranking among the top 15 in program history, while his 24 career home runs rank seventh in the Canisius record book. Strong also left his mark on the basepaths, finishing his career tied for the program's all-time record with 57 stolen bases. His 42 stolen bases during the 2024 season established a new single-season school record.
During his junior campaign, the West Seneca, N.Y., native hit .305 with a 1.130 OPS. He led Canisius in hits (62), RBI (44), runs (55), triples (3), home runs (11), total bases (110) and stolen bases (42). His 42 stolen bases not only led the conference but also ranked third in the NCAA.
Strong and the Tigers will face the Pirates in the MLB Spring Breakout Showcase on March 20 at 7:35 p.m. at LECOM Park in Bradenton, Fla.
