Lisson Tabbed AHA Rookie of the Month for October

Canisius freshman goaltender Jack Lisson has been named the Atlantic Hockey America Rookie of the Month for October, league officials announced on Tuesday.

A native of Oakville, Ontario, Lisson was recognized after posting a 2.45 goals against average and a .921 save percentage in more than 440 minutes between the pipes for the Golden Griffins.

Appearing in all eight games and making six starts during October, Lisson began his collegiate career in memorable fashion as he stopped all 23 shots he faced in a 4-0 shutout of Ferris State on Oct. 2. The first rookie to start a season between the pipes for Canisius since 2005-06, Lisson became the first goaltender in the Division I era of the program to post a shutout in his collegiate debut.

Lisson followed that effort with a relief appearance in the series finale against the Bulldogs that saw him stop all eight shots he faced before turning aside two-of-three shootout attempts to earn the shootout victory. For his efforts, he was named the AHA's Goaltender of the Week.

In his road debut against LIU on Oct. 9, Lisson turned aside 33 shots to earn a 3-2 victory. He finished the series with the Sharks with his second relief appearance of the season, a 22-save effort in a 3-2 setback the following night, helping him earn AHA Rookie of the Week honors.

Lisson started the final four games of the month of October, recording 28 saves in a 4-3 overtime victory at Clarkson while also stopping 30-or-more shots in both games of the Griffs series at Penn State Oct. 23-24.

Canisius (3-4-1, 0-0-0 AHA) returns to action this weekend when it opens AHA play with a two-game series versus Sacred Heart at Martire Family Arena in Fairfield, Conn.

The opener between the Griffs and Pionners is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday. Saturday's finale is scheduled for a 6 p.m. puck drop.
