Chiddenton Strikes in Overtime to Lift Hockey Past Clarkson

Senior Rhys Chiddenton scored at the 1:42 mark of overtime to lift Canisius to a 4-3 victory over Clarkson in collegiate men's hockey action Friday at Cheel Arena in Potsdam, N.Y.

Chiddenton's overtime marker highlighted a three-point night for the Campbellville, Ontario native as he also dished out a pair of assists for the Golden Griffins (3-1-1). Fellow senior Noah Quinn and sophomore Hunter Price also turned in multiple-point performances with a goal and an assist each while sophomore Joey Henneberry accounted for the other tally.

In goal, freshman Jack Lisson picked up his third win of the young season, finishing the evening with 28 saves.

Tyler Wallace registered a goal and two assists for the Golden Knights (1-2-0). Hayden Reid and Talon Sigurdson notched the other two Clarkson goals. Ben Gaudreau stopped 22 shots between the pipes for the Golden Knights in his collegiate debut.

Chiddenton's game-winning goal came less than two minutes into the overtime session as he collected a loose puck in the Clarkson zone and retreated into the neutral zone before rushing back into the zone and beating Gaudreau with a wrist shot to the blocker side.
Earlier in the game, the teams traded goals in the opening three minutes of the contest as Price opened the scoring just 25 seconds into the contest when he beat Gaudreau over the right shoulder on a feed from senior Rhys Chiddenton. Clarkson leveled he score a little more than two minutes later as Reid finished off a give-and-go passing play with Wallace to make it a 1-1 contest.

Wallace put the Golden Knights in front at the 12:11 mark of the first with a power-play goal as he redirected a point shot from Jared Mangan past Lisson to give Clarkson a 2-1 lead.

Quinn tied the game at 2-2 with less than 90 seconds remaining in the opening frame, tapping home a rebound on a shot from Chiddenton for his second goal of the season.
After a scoreless second, Henneberry gave the Griffs a 3-2 lead of the contest when he redirected a shot from sophomore Carter Anderson over the shoulder of Gaudreau for his first in a Canisius uniform.

Sigurdson brought the Golden Knights level with less than five minutes to play in the third, banging home a rebound from the bottom of the slot after Lisson turned aside the initial attempt from Adrian Misaljevic, setting the stage for Chiddenton's overtime heroics.
