Swimming and Diving Hosts Rider on Senior Day

The Canisius men's and women's swimming and diving teams will close out the home portion of the 2025-26 season on Saturday when the Golden Griffins host Rider at the Burt Flickinger Center Pool in downtown Buffalo.

The dual meet between the Golden Griffins and the Broncs is set to start at 10 a.m. At 9:45 a.m., Canisius will honor 14 student-athletes - Anna Bartlo, Halsted Barton, Emily Blake, Hannah Brainard, Kelly Crous, Maya Harrison, Peyton Koukides, Toby Mayfield, Tarin Rietz, Tori Spacciapolli, Alez Szczepankiewicz, Nick Tirrell, Sam Vidal and Herman Zilch – as part of the program's annual Senior Day ceremonies.

Canisius has not been in competitive action since Nov. 21-22, when the Griffs took part in the UB Invite at Alumni Arena Natatorium in Buffalo. Competing against Big Four rival Buffalo and Battle of the Bridge foe Niagara, the Canisius men were led by a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 fly as freshman Peyton Gilliland took first (22.85), Mayfield placed second (23.77) and freshman Hubert Hawkins claimed third (24.64).

Sophomore Giovanni Poggio placed second in the 50 breaststroke (26.89), while freshman Alex Schuler placed second (24.50) Zilch took third (27.83) in the 50 back. Vidal claimed second in the men's 100 breast, touching the wall in 55.82, just four one-hundredths of a second behind Niagara's Lance Rafel Cruz (55.78).

In men's diving event, freshman Leo Rodriguez took first in both the 1-meter (181.50) and 3-meter (148.35).

On the women's side, sophomore Daphne Mead placed second in the women's 100 fly, touching the wall in 56.06. Mead also claimed second in the women's 200 back with a time of 2:03.39. Junior Evie Leighton claimed third in the women's 200 free (1:51.46).

Rider is returning to action for the first time since Nov. 21-23, when the Broncs took part in the H2ounds Invitational, hosted by Loyola (Md.) in Baltimore, Md. This will mark the first time Canisius and Rider have competed in a dual meet in program history.

After the event against Rider, Canisius will return to action with dual meets at Niagara (Jan. 17) and at Le Moyne (Jan. 24) before heading to Ohio for the 2026 MAAC Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
