Swimming and Diving Posts Senior Day Split Versus Rider

The Canisius women's swimming and diving team recorded a 174-126 victory over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Rider in collegiate swimming and diving action Saturday at the Burt Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo.
 
The Broncs earned a split of the dual meet, fashioning a 204-90 victory over the Golden Griffin men.
 
For the Canisius women, the relay quartet of junior Evie Leighton and Cassandra Ercoli, sophomore Daphne Mead and senior Emily Blake got the meet started on the right foot as they posted a win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.03.
 
Mead also claimed a trio of first-place finishes, taking the top spot in the 200 fly (2:12.24), the 200 back (2:09.00) and the 200 IM (2:11.77) individual races.
 
Leighton swept both the women's 100 and 200 free, recording a time of 54.16 in the 100 while touching the wall in 1:58.77 in the 200.  Leighton also swam the anchor leg of the women's 400 free relay that rallied in the final leg of the race to take first with a time of 3:43.11.
 
Junior Cassandra Ercoli placed first in the 100 breast (1:09.39), highlighting a 1-2-3 finish for the Griffs that saw senior Tori Spacciapolli place second (1:11.51) and senior Peyton Koukides claim third (1:13.60).
 
Freshman Lacee Williams placed first in the women's 3-meter diving competition, posting a finals score of 188.85.
 
Senior Toby Mayfield paced the Canisius men, claiming first place in the  200 fly (1:56.31) and posting a pair of second place finishes in the 100 fly (51.77) and 200 IM (2:00.12) races.
 
Junior Atticus Hlubin and sophomore Giovanni Poggio gave the Griffs a 2-3 finish in the 200 breast, with Hlubin placing second (2:13.33) and Poggio taking third (2:15.54).
 
Senior Sam Vidal and junior Luke Critchlow fashioned a 2-3 result for Canisius in the 500 free as Critchlow claimed second (4:55.07) and Vidal took third (4:57.65).
 
The quartet of sophomore Elijah Nevins, junior Tom McCabe, sophomore Cameron Upchurch and Vidal placed second in the men's 400 free relay with a time of 3:13.34.
 
UP NEXT
Canisius returns to action Jan. 17 when it travels to Lewiston, N.Y. for a dual meet against Battle of the Bridge foe Niagara. Start time for the meet is slated for noon.
