Finalists for Canisius Male Athlete of the Year Announced

The finalists for the 2024-25 Canisius Male Athlete of the Year have been announced. Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite finalists through 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 26. The winner will be revealed on Friday, July 27.
 
In alphabetical order, the finalists are:
 
Ryan Edholm – Men's Golf
• All-MAAC First Team selection, becoming just the fourth golfer in program history to multiple All-MAAC accolades during his career
• Finished tied for sixth at the 2025 MAAC Championships, posting a one-under-par total of 215 over the three-day event
• His 215 total at the MAAC Championship was the lowest score for a Canisius golfer at the event since the tournament format moved to 54 holes in 2002
• Took part in all 10 events during the 2024-25 campaign, fashioning a team-low 72.35 stroke average
• Finished in the top 10 of five of his 10 tournaments played, highlighted by a pair of top three results
• Carded his sixth career round in the 60s with a season-low 68 in the second round of the  2024 Colonel Shootout (Sept. 7-8)
• Carded a one-under-par total of 143 (71-72) to finish third in the Little Three Championship (Sept. 17)
• Claimed a share of ninth place with a 36-hole total of even par 144 (72-72) in the NY/Pa. Quad Match (April 14) 
 
Kyle Haskins – Hockey
• One of five skaters to appear in all 37 games
• Led the team in goals (11), while sitting second in points (23) 
• Led the team with 89 shots on goal
• Tallied game-winning goal and added an assist in 6-4 triumph at RIT (Dec. 3)
• Recorded a career-high three points with a goal and two assists in 4-2 victory over Robert Morris (Jan. 28)
• Recorded three goals in weekend series against Bentley (Feb. 14-15)
• Achieved a three-point weekend, finishing with a goal and two assists against Niagara (Feb. 21-22)
• Scored the game-winning goal in the first round of the AHA Postseason against Mercyhurst (March 1)

Trent Rumley - Baseball
• All-MAAC First team selection at the utility position
• Started 44 of the 45 games played, spending time at shortstop, third base and second base
• Posted career highs and led the team in nearly all hitting categories, including batting average (.347), home runs (10), doubles (13), runs (37), hits (59), RBI (43), slugging percentage (.612) and total bases (104)
• Recorded multiple hits in in 16 games, highlighted by eight performances that saw him record three-or-more base knocks
• Ended the season with a 10-game hitting streak, his second hitting streak of 10-or-more games during the campaign
• Tabbed MAAC Player of the Week on April 8 after going 7-for-10 during league series at Marist where he hit two home runs and drove in seven runs
• Recorded career highs of four hits, two home runs and six RBI in series opener at Marist (April 4)
• Named to MAAC All-Academic Team
 
Ely Sidibe – Men's Soccer
• All-MAAC Second Team Selection
• Appeared in 16 games, starting 14
• Led the team with five goals and 11 points
• Recorded an assist in the season-opener against Le Moyne (Aug. 22)
• Scored a goal against VMI (Sept. 6)
• Tallied a goal against Robert Morris (Oct. 1)
• Recorded a goal against Marist (Oct. 11)
• Scored two goals against Fairfield (Nov. 2)
• MAAC All-Academic Team
• CSC Academic All-District Honoree
 
Alexis Simard – Men's Lacrosse
• All-MAAC Second Team selection
• Played 12 games, making 10 starts
• Finished with 24 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers
• Also pitched in three goals
• Finished with career highs of six ground balls and four caused turnovers in 10-9 triumph against Merrimack (March 15)
• Tallied a goal and added two ground balls versus Marist (March 26)
• Scored in regular-season finale versus Siena (April 19)
• Named to MAAC All-Academic Team
 
Sam Vidal – Men's Swimming and Diving
• Competed in all nine meets
• Recorded three personal-best times at MAAC Championships
• Improved on his own school record in the 200 breast at MAAC Championships (2:00.14)
• Three-time individual finalist at MAAC Championships in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and 500 free, highlighted by a fifth-place finish in the 200 breast
• Finished on the podium 22 times, highlighted by an individual and relay event sweep vs Rochester (Oct. 19)
• Named to MAAC All-Academic Team
