Outdoor Track Opens 2025 MAAC Championships Saturday

Canisius had three runners qualify for the finals in their respective events to highlight the first day of competition in the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Rider University's Michael P. Brady Track & Field Complex in Lawrenceville, N.J.

Graduate Max Chew qualified for the men's 1500-meter final after placing 12th in the prelims with a time of 4:03.36. Freshman Fenway Breckels took 15th place in the men's 1500m prelims, crossing the finish line in 4:05.86.

Freshman Ryan Giglia earned a spot in the finals of the men's 800m race after taking sixth place in the prelims with a time of 1:55.63. Junior Braden Tent claimed 11th place in the men's 800m prelims, posting a time of 1:56.68.

Junior Joe Pivarunas claimed 10th place in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, registering a time of 9:50.15. Sophomore Brooke Podgorski took 16th in the women's 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 12:20.72.

Junior Jacqueline Appenheimer claimed a spot in Sunday's women's 1500m finals following a 10th-place showing in the prelims with a time of 4:47.34.

Senior Kayla Schmidt recorded a fifth-place result in the women's 10000m race, posting a time of 37:26.39. Freshman Nadalie Latchaw gave the Golden Griffins two top-10 finishes in the race, crossing the finish line.
