Track Begins Outdoor Season Saturday at Early Season Invite

The Canisius men's and women's track teams opened their outdoor season Saturday with an appearance in the SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invitational at the SUNY Geneseo Track and Field Complex in Geneseo, N.Y.

For the women, junior Jacqueline Appenheimer turned in a pair of Top 10 finishes, placing fourth in the 1,500-meter run (4:48.57) while claiming seventh in the 800-meter (2:21.91).

Senior Kayla Schmidt gave the Golden Griffins their second Top 10 runner in the 1,500-meter, crossing the line 4:49.05 to take seventh. Senior Taylor Heschke placed 12th, running at a 4:57.56 clip.

Sophomore Brooke Podgorski claimed sixth in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, posting a time of 12:56.14.

On the men's side, freshman Nathaniel Fisher took 10th place in the 5,000-meter, posting a time of 15:25.98. Fisher was one of three Top 15 finishers for Canisius in the event as freshman Ryan Giglia took 12th (15:29.90) and sophomore Brody Jones came in 14th (15:33.87).

Freshman Adam Kozman took 12th place in the men's 1,500-meter, crossing the finish line in 4:07.04.
