Swimming and Diving Heads to Binghamton Saturday

The Canisius swimming and diving teams travel to Vestal, N.Y., Saturday for a dual meet against in-state Binghamton.
 
Start time for the meet between the Golden Griffins and Bearcats is slated for 1 p.m. at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center.
 
Canisius opened the home portion of its schedule on Oct. 24 with a dual meet against Geneseo at the Burt Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo. The Knights spoiled the Griffs home debut, sweeping the meet with a 175-125 victory in the women's event while the Geneseo men posted a 153-145 triumph.

In the men's event, freshman Gavin Ray won his first two collegiate events after he placed first in the 500 (4:52.56) and 1,000 free (10:03.59). Senior Toby Mayfield and junior Elliot Somers both also recorded a pair of wins, with Mayfield sweeping the 100 (50.74) and 200 (1:55.93) fly while Somers claimed first in the 100 (51.47) and 200 (1:54.17) back.
 
Sophomore Daphne Mead paced the Canisius women as she won three individual events on the night, posting victories in the 100 (58.15) and 200 back (2:06.98) before capping her evening with a first-place finish in the 200 IM (2:13.39).
 
Junior Evie Leighton won two individual races as well, claiming first place in the 100 (53.38) and 200 (1:55.37) free. Leighton and Mead also swam on the women's 200 medley relay that opened the meet with a win after posting a time of 1:46.85.

UP NEXT
Canisius squares off against Little Three rival St. Bonaventure in a dual meet on Nov. 7.
 
Competition between the Griffs and Bonnies is slated to begin at 6 p.m. at the Reilly Center Pool in Olean, N.Y.
