Binghamton Scores Two Wins Over Swimming and Diving

The host Binghamton Bearcats swept a dual meet over Canisius in collegiate swimming and diving action Saturday afternoon at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center in Vestal, N.Y.
 
The Binghamton women won their event by the final score of 217-83, while the Binghamton men earned a 192-106 victory over the Golden Griffins.
 
In the women's dual meet, Canisius sophomore Daphne Mead won a pair of events, starting with the 400-yard IM, where she touched the wall first with her time of 4:35.61. She later went on to win the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:00.67. The Baltimore, Md., native also recorded a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with her time of 59.94. Junior Evie Leighton won the 200-yard free race with her time of 1:56.27. Mead and Leighton joined with teammates Leyna Swanson and Hannah Brainard to finish second in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay, as well.
 
In the men's competition, senior Toby Mayfield won three races on the day, starting with a first-place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:12.07. He went on to touch the wall first in the 50-yard butterfly (23.56) before winning the 100-yard IM with a time of 53.11. Junior Elliot Somers won the 100-yard butterfly (51.83) and senior Sam Vidal won the 100-yard breaststroke with his time of 58.17.

UP NEXT
Canisius will return to the road Nov. 7, when the Griffs take part in a dual meet at long-time rival St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y. The diving portion of the dual meet will start at 3 p.m., and the swimming action is set to start at 6 p.m.
