Senior Kayla Schmidt led the way with a third-place finish as the Canisius indoor track and field teams continued their 2025 season at the SPIRE Institute D1 Midwest Open Saturday in Akron, Ohio.
Schmidt paced the women's side with a third-place finish in the 3000 meter run, crossing the line in 10:06.15. Junior Jacqueline Appenheimer also placed in the top 10, finishing ninth with a time of 10:21.58.
Freshman Nadalie Latchaw got the Griffs their third top-10 finish, placing eighth in the 5000 meter run (19:08.16).
On the men's side, sophomore Joseph Capuzzo paced the Golden Griffins with a fourth-place finish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:01.67. Junior Kyle Urban got the men their second top-10 finish of the meet, placing sixth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:35.19.
